Good news for neighbors: while the FamilyWorks Wallingford Food Bank undergoes renovations, the organization has opened a temporary location that brings it a bit closer to its Fremont roots.

You can now find the food bank at 4318 Stone Way N. in the old Stoneway Hardware building through mid-2026. The new spot maintains the same hours:

  • Tuesdays: 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.
  • Thursdays: 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.
  • Fridays: 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

For those who remember, FamilyWorks began its journey right here in Fremont. According to the FamilyWorks website, in the early 1990s, the Fremont Public Association (now known as Solid Ground) launched an initiative to support local families. A volunteer recruited local activists to form a board and establish the North Central Family Resource Center as a new nonprofit, FamilyWorks, which took over operation of the Fremont Food Bank in 1998. They moved to their Wallingford location on N. 45th Street that same year.

Over the past three decades, FamilyWorks has grown from a small grassroots effort into a community resource serving nearly 6,000 households annually across North Seattle. The current renovation, supported by federal and city funding, will expand capacity to serve even more families. The groundbreaking ceremony in late October drew over 100 neighbors and local officials.
