The Fremont Rocket returned to its glowing glory Thursday night as neighbors gathered for a re-lighting ceremony that brought a little extra sparkle to the holiday season.
Sarah Mitchell, Office Manager of the Fremont Chamber of Commerce, and Brandi Gaines, President of the Board of Directors, hosted the 5 p.m. ceremony. The timing couldn’t have been better, the rain had stopped, leaving a clear evening for the light show.
Night market shoppers and curious onlookers watched as the ceremonial “boosters” and big switch brought the rocket back to life in a display that reminded everyone why this quirky landmark is a neighborhood favorite.
The event celebrated the donors and sponsors who’ve kept the Keep the Rocket Lit campaign going strong. The fundraiser covers ongoing maintenance costs for the beloved art installation, and contributions are still welcome. Those interested in donating can reach the Chamber at administrator@fremont.com.
The rocket’s star turn this week isn’t over yet. The Fremont Neighborhood Council is selling limited edition rocket-themed holiday sweatshirts featuring designs from last week’s Ugly Sweater Design Contest at the Fremont Mingle & Jingle. The winning designs showcase the Fremont Rocket and the neighborhood’s Topiary Dinosaur. Sweatshirts are available at fremontneighborhoodcouncil.org/store.
