If you thought Route 40 construction would wrap up by the end of 2025, think again. Crews are still at work in Fremont as the project continues into the new year.
The good news? North 35th Street between Evanston Avenue North and Fremont Avenue North is open to traffic and parking, though sidewalk work continues there. Crews have removed those southbound lane closures on Fremont Avenue North between North 35th and North 34th streets. Whew!
Work has shifted to Fremont Place North between Fremont Avenue North and Evanston Avenue North, right next to the Lenin statue. You’ll see new construction signs, parking restrictions and equipment staging in that area.
The other big impact right now is on North 35th Street, where crews are working on street panels, sidewalks, curb ramps and bus stop improvements.
Throughout the neighborhood, crews continue demolishing old sidewalks, installing wider ones with ADA-compliant curb ramps, trenching for electrical conduit and replacing pavement. Expect the usual sidewalk closures, pedestrian detours, temporary lane restrictions and construction noise during work hours.
We’re tracking progress and will keep you posted with updates as work continues and hopefully ends soon!
