Seattle Police Department officers met with community members during a Coffee with a Cop event Jan. 13, 2026, at the Starbucks on East Green Lake Drive North.

The drop-in event brought together North Precinct personnel, parking enforcement officers, crime prevention coordinators and community service officers with residents for casual conversations over free coffee.

Store manager Ryan Garcia, a 15-year Starbucks veteran who transferred from Hawaii four months ago, hosted the event as part of a national Starbucks program. The gathering marked the first Coffee with a Cop event at the Green Lake location in some time, with organizers planning to host similar events quarterly.

Among those attending was Pete Hanning, executive director of the Fremont Chamber of Commerce, who expressed interest in bringing a similar event to Fremont.

The event comes as last year’s Seattle Public Safety Survey showed varying levels of trust between neighborhoods and police, with Fremont recording one of the lower police legitimacy ratings in North Seattle despite having the lowest fear of crime.
