Fremont Baptist Church is collecting back-to-school supplies through the end of August for children living in local shelters.
The church is gathering backpacks, notebooks, folders, pencils, glue and scissors, along with hygiene items such as soap, toothpaste and shampoo. Non-perishable after-school snacks are also needed.
The drive runs in two phases. Through Thursday, Aug. 13, donations support the Pack It Forward drive run by Solid Ground. From then through Sunday, Aug. 30, supplies go to the Union Gospel Mission Women and Children’s Shelter.
FBC organizer Ralph Weathers noted, “Last year the children especially loved the colorful backpacks with their favorite cartoon characters and superheroes!”
Donations can be dropped off at the church, 717 N 36th St., on Sunday mornings. Residents can also call 206-632-7994 to arrange another drop-off time.
