Join the movement to make Fremont a Creative District

, , ,

Fremont has long been celebrated for its artistic spirit and now community volunteers hope to formalize the legacy by creating an official Creative District through Washington State’s ArtsWA program. A team of volunteers is hosting an in-person working meeting May 7 from 5-7 p.m. at Fremont Pizza to advance the initiative.

“We need help to make this happen,” said Caroline Sherman, volunteer administrator for the Fremont Creative District initiative. “We will be meeting in person to connect with one another in real life and plan and work… Be ready to dive in!”

Washington State’s Creative Districts program, managed by ArtsWA, offers official designation to communities that demonstrate a commitment to growing and sustaining their creative economies. Designated districts receive funding, technical assistance, and promotional support that can help boost local arts and culture while driving economic development.

The team is looking for participants from all creative backgrounds, including artists, makers, crafters, writers, graphic designers and industry professionals. The meeting will focus on planning, writing, designing, and coordinating efforts to complete the designation process.

Specific needs include:

  • Volunteers interested in serving on the board of directors for a new 501(c)(3) organization to manage this endeavor
  • People with marketing expertise to help spread the word
  • Grant writers and strategic planners

For people who want to attend, RSVP with Sherman at ofcnerd@hotmail.com.

The initiative is being coordinated by a coalition of local organizations: the Fremont Arts Council, Fremont Chamber of Commerce, Fremont Neighborhood Council, and Fremont Rotary.
