Get ready, Fremont: the 2026 FIFA World Cup is coming to our neighborhood in the most Fremont way possible.

The Fremont Arts Council has snagged one of 13 grants awarded by the City of Seattle to bring World Cup celebrations to every corner of the city. True to form, the FAC isn’t planning your typical watch party.

“We’re already coming up with our ideas,” said Amber McMorrow, president of the Fremont Arts Council. And those ideas are ambitious!

Picture the world’s largest soccer scarf stretching from the Troll down the hill to Lenin, strung along trees and telephone poles. But wait, there’s more…those same trees will get the full yarn-bombing treatment, turning the route into a colorful corridor of creativity.

“We can all work together on it,” McMorrow said, inviting neighbors to join in on the crafting fun.

The FAC is also dreaming up a Solstice Parade entry featuring giant puppets kicking around an enormous soccer ball. And yes, there’s talk of putting a giant soccer ball on top of Lenin’s head, because why not?

McMorrow, a Seattle native who grew up attending Fremont Arts Council events, sees these projects as a way to keep Fremont’s creative spirit alive and bring the community together. The grants, totaling $485,000 across all districts, ensure that World Cup excitement reaches beyond the stadium.

Stay tuned for ways to get involved in these on brand Fremont celebrations.

Welcome!
