Neighborhood’s beloved soup crawl returns Jan. 29-Feb. 1 with 16 participating restaurants
Fremont’s answer to the dreary end of January is back! Soupocalypse, the neighborhood’s four-day soup passport event, returns Jan. 29 through Feb. 1.
The concept is simple: Pick up a passport at any participating restaurant, order soup at eight different spots to collect stickers, then turn in your completed passport at Triangle Spirits for “Super Souper Swag” while supplies last.
Born during the pandemic in January 2021, Soupocalypse gave Fremontsters a reason to escape their homes, support local restaurants, and enjoy delicious soups. “Everyone was bored and cold and not doing anything fun,” Chef John Walkie, who created the event while at Fremont Mischief Distillery, told KING 5’s Evening Magazine in 2024.
Five years later, the event has grown into a neighborhood tradition. This year’s lineup includes 16 restaurants spanning cuisines from Thai to Mexican to Caribbean to soul food – all united by the appeal of a hot bowl of soup on a cold day.

Looking ahead
In the Evening Magazine video, Walkie said he has big dreams for the event’s future. “What I’d really like to see is other neighborhoods catch on to this – a Seattle-wide Soupocalypse. I think that would be fun.”
But for now, the event remains a distinctly Fremont tradition. Neighbors have four days to prove they have what it takes to be a Super Souper. As the event’s organizers say, “It’s not the end of the world… until we run out of soup!”
