Fremont losing Reuben’s to development

Reuben’s Brews’ Fremont taproom will close on May 18 after nearly two years of operation due to the property owner’s plans to redevelop the site. The brewery was aware of this possibility when they signed their short-term lease in October 2023.

This closure comes as Reuben’s prepares to open a new downtown Seattle location at 1201 First Avenue.

“We love Reuben’s. It’s awesome having a family friendly, outdoor restaurant and gathering spot walking distance to us,” said local patron Peter Livesey. “I understand that Seattle desperately needs more high density housing and hope that the success of Reuben’s will persuade them or other breweries to open up more locations in north Fremont.”

According to King 5 News, a land use report submitted to the City of Seattle reveals plans for a five-story mixed-use building at the taproom’s current location, featuring retail space on the ground floor and over 100 residential units above, including a combination of studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments, plus 46 “small efficiency dwelling units.”

In their Instagram post, Reuben’s said, “Sharing this news is bittersweet because we’ve been thrilled to be part of the Fremont community for nearly two years. During that time we met so many great people and made so many new friends. Hopefully we’ll continue to see you at our Ballard taproom (which isn’t going anywhere), or soon, our downtown taproom on First Avenue!”

We’ll keep folks posted on the development planned at the taproom’s current location.
