Hello, neighbors! Welcome to Fremont Neighbor Notes, a Friday guide to what’s happening around our community in the coming week.
July 18: Burke-Gilman Trail Weeding – The Green Seattle Partnership will host a pollinator patch weeding event Friday, July 18, from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the south end of the Pollinator Patch on the Burke-Gilman Trail across from Gasworks Park Marina. Volunteers of all ages are welcome to help with general weeding to prepare the area for additional pollinator plants to be planted in the fall, with 16 of 20 spots already registered. Participants should bring water, gloves, comfortable work clothes and an optional light snack for the midway break, with parking available along North Northlake Way or in the Gasworks Park parking lot.
July 18-21: NB I-5 Ship Canal Bridge Closure – The Washington State Department of Transportation’s Revive I-5 Ship Canal Bridge preservation project begins this weekend with a complete northbound closure from 11:59 p.m. Friday, July 18, to 5 a.m. Monday, July 21, followed by four weeks of reduced lanes and a second full closure Aug. 15-18. The closures will divert an estimated 240,000 daily I-5 users to Highway 99 and local streets including Aurora and Fremont avenues, creating severe traffic congestion throughout the neighborhood.
July 19-20: Fremont Water Shutoff and Lane Closure – Seattle Public Utilities will shut off water from 2 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, and Sunday, July 20, as part of infrastructure improvements to replace a 100-year-old waterline under Fremont Avenue North between North 34th and 35th streets. All northbound lanes on Fremont Avenue North will be closed between North 34th and 35th streets from approximately 1 to 11 a.m. both days, with one southbound lane remaining open. Residents should expect overnight construction noise including loud humming, grinding and diesel engine sounds as crews work to upgrade the water main system to improve capacity, flow and pressure in the neighborhood.
July 20: Stone Way Auto Community Pop-up – Stone Way Auto will host its first annual Community Pop-up on Sunday, July 20, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring local businesses and family-friendly activities at 3621 Stone Way. The free event will include interactive experiences from All Together Skatepark, Spinnaker Chocolate, Resilient Hearts Animal Sanctuary, Eames NW, Cedar House Flowers and Seattle Bouldering Project, with Where Ya At Matt food truck serving New Orleans-inspired cuisine. The open house aims to bring together neighborhood businesses and residents for a summer celebration that encourages shopping local and community connection.
