Hello, neighbors! Welcome to “Fremont Neighbor Notes,” a Friday guide to what’s happening around our community in the coming week.
May 9-12: Ballard Bridge Closure – Bridge closes Friday at 10 p.m. (lane closures starting 7 p.m.) and reopens Monday by 5 a.m. 15th Ave NW will also be fully closed between NW 51st St and NW 50th St during this period for concrete roadway restoration. SDOT recommends using the Aurora Bridge (SR 99) if you have to drive and only use the Fremont Bridge if you’re traveling to Fremont or Westlake, since the bridge has limited capacity. Future closure dates: May 30-June 2, June 6-9.
May 10: Fremont Abbey Drum & Sound Meditation – Experience a gentle somatic journey through rhythm and sound with seasoned drummer Faustine Hudson, who brings 34 years of percussion expertise to this immersive meditation session. Participants will connect with the ancient healing traditions of frame drums, wave drums, and crystal bowls in a neutral space designed to soothe the nervous system and invite personal exploration. Bring your own comfort items (mat, cushion, blanket) and arrive by 12:20 p.m. for this partly silent event where phones must be turned off. Pre-registration recommended.
May 10: Nectar Saturday Hip-Hop w/ MURS – Los Angeles hip-hop icon MURS brings his farewell “The Last Run” tour to Nectar Lounge, supporting his final album “Love and Rockets 3:16.” With nearly three decades in the game, this underground king rose from the Living Legends collective to Warner Bros. recognition, collaborating with both veterans (Snoop Dogg, E-40) and new school artists (Kendrick Lamar, Mac Miller). The Guinness World Record holder for “Rapping for 24 Hours Non-Stop” will be joined by Platinum Max, 3rd Wrld, Noa James, and DJ Indica Jones before retiring from touring to focus on family life. Don’t miss this last chance to see a true hip-hop pioneer perform live.
May 13: Sandwich Making with the Fremont Rotary – Join the Fremont Rotary Club (aka “the Fun Club”) for their monthly community service event at 6:00 p.m. where volunteers assemble over 200 sandwiches to benefit local organizations including Compass Housing Alliance, Operation Nightwatch, and FamilyWorks in Wallingford. This gathering at Taki’s Mad Greek (1471 NW 85th St) exemplifies Rotary International’s mission of providing service to others while building fellowship among community leaders. No experience necessary, just bring your helping hands and community spirit.
