The Fremont Solstice Parade is coming up on Saturday, June 21 at 1 p.m., and organizers are still looking for a few more volunteers to help out.

“There are several volunteer roles that we recruit for every year,” said Cindy Krafft, Fremont Arts Council board vice president. “A couple of them are already full, which is awesome, but there are some we still need help with.”

The biggest need is for parade monitors who are stationed along the route in pairs.

“They help keep spectators on the sidewalk, the parade on the streets, and just be on the lookout for anybody who might need help,” Krafft said. “We give them walkie-talkies, and we have a couple of monitor leads. I’m one of them and our board president is one of them as well.”

Krafft added, “I’ve been volunteering as a parade monitor for four years, and the really good thing about it is you get to be at the very front of the crowd, you get the best view of the parade as well.”

There are also two paid roles still open: street closure monitors and street cleanup crew. “This isn’t a volunteer role. We actually pay people to do this,” Krafft said about the closure monitors. “The reason why it’s paid is because you don’t actually get to see the parade. You’re off on one of the side streets, keeping cars off the side streets so they don’t get stuck near the parade.”

Krafft noted that cleanup roles are also paid.

All available roles are listed in one place. To sign up, fill out this form.
