If you’ve been spotting cheerful dragon-adorned yard signs around Fremont lately, you’re witnessing B.F. Day Elementary’s spirited push to welcome new families. And honestly? The enthusiasm is contagious.
B.F. Day – affectionately known as “the family school” – is hosting tours this month for families considering enrollment for the 2025-26 school year. With Seattle Public Schools enrollment opening Jan. 5, now’s the perfect time to see what makes this PreK-5 neighborhood school special.
“This is a place where every child is seen, supported, and encouraged to shine,” the school said, and they’re eager to prove it by walking families through their halls and introducing them to the community.
A little history
B.F. Day has been a Fremont fixture since 1892, making it one of Seattle’s oldest continuously operating elementary schools. Named after Benjamin Franklin Day, the school has weathered everything from the Great Depression to the pandemic while maintaining its reputation as a warm, welcoming community hub.
The school’s distinctive dragon mascot – visible on those yard signs popping up around the neighborhood – has become a beloved symbol of school spirit.
Tour details
Families can register for tours on Jan. 8, 22, or 29 through this online form.

Full disclosure: My kids attended B.F. Day, and I may be slightly biased about how great it is.
