Ready to show some love to one of Fremont’s quirkiest green spaces? Friends of the Troll’s Knoll wants YOU to join them for a community work party on Sunday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
We’re talking tree planting, trail mulching, and tucking in some spring bulbs that’ll pop up with color when the sunshine returns. And here’s a fun touch: the crew has revived artwork from an original flyer that rallied neighbors to care for this spot back in the day. FOTK President Leo Griffin dug up the flyer from the City Archives and believes it dates to around 1989, before the Fremont Troll was even installed. It’s a sweet nod to the park’s roots (pun intended) and the community spirit that keeps it going strong.

Never wielded a shovel? No worries! Tools, gloves, mulch, trees, bulbs, snacks, and drinks are all covered. Just bring yourself, a water bottle, and some sturdy footwear. Pop by for an hour or stay the whole time…whatever works for you.
Meet up on the east side of the Fremont Troll, near the community shed by the Troll’s Knoll Arch. It helps to RSVP at fremonttrollsknoll@gmail.com.
Speaking of community spirit, Friends of the Troll’s Knoll recently gathered to honor their fearless leader, Leo Griffin. Leo’s been the engine behind so much of what makes this park great, not to mention his work on public art projects all over the neighborhood.
Volunteers crowned him with a flower garland and surprised him with cupcakes because, honestly, when someone puts in that kind of work, cake is the least we can do.
“We wanted to thank him for all his hard work,” said Laura Chamberlin, a Troll’s Knoll volunteer.
So mark your calendars, grab your neighbors, and come help keep Troll’s Knoll beautiful.
