Woodland Park Zoo is planning some big changes over the next 20 years, and they actually want to know what you think about it.
The zoo is putting together something called a long-range facilities plan that will guide major updates and improvements through 2045. Think animal habitats, guest areas, facilities… basically everything that affects what it’s like to live next door to a bunch of animals.
Here’s the thing: we’re the ones who deal with zoo traffic on 50th and navigate around tour buses during peak season. The zoo gets that our day-to-day experience matters when they’re planning changes that could affect the neighborhood for decades.
They want to know about:
- How zoo operations impact daily life around here
- What improvements would actually benefit us as neighbors
- Ideas for better community connections (maybe easier access for locals?)
This is only the zoo’s third master plan in 125 years so it’s not exactly an everyday opportunity. Plus, the changes they make will be right in our backyard.

It’s worth spending a few minutes to make sure the zoo’s future plans work for the neighborhood, not just the animals.
