Visitors to the Fremont Sunday Market today picked up paintbrushes and added their own touches to a community mural under the Fremont Bridge thanks to Fremont Creative District volunteers.
Local artist Maggie Butler designed the three paneled paint-by-numbers project, which drew neighbors of all ages throughout the rainy afternoon. People stopped by the booth to paint, chat, and learn about the Fremont Creative District (FCD).
According to FCD President Lizz Slabaugh, the completed mural will be displayed at the new Picklr space in Fremont.
The FCD is a grassroots effort working to designate Fremont as an official Washington State Creative District, which would bring grant funding, statewide recognition, and that coveted highway sign! But more importantly, FCD is all about preserving what makes Fremont special: our quirky public art, our independent businesses, and our creative, joyful community spirit.
The group is eyeing several projects for 2026, including launching a Fremont Art Walk, filling vacant storefronts with local art, and commissioning a new mural in the neighborhood.
FCD is currently raising $2,500 to cover startup costs and the organization will hold its first board elections and an inaugural party Dec. 4 at Triangle Spirits. More information is available at https://creativefremont.org and you can donate at https://givebutter.com/fcd.
