In the new series highlighting the unique signs and messages that give Fremont its distinctive character, we’re featuring this colorful handmade banner spotted on North 43rd Street in northwest Fremont.

All Flourishing is Mutual is often attributed to botanist and author Robin Wall Kimmerer from her acclaimed book, “Braiding Sweetgrass.” It speaks to the interconnected nature of all living things. This is a fitting message for our community-minded neighborhood.

Raspberry plants are currently growing at the base of the fence that will eventually produce fruit in front of the sign. It’s a living demonstration of the mutual relationship between plants and people that Kimmerer celebrates in her work.
