Vandalism is a common occurrence in cities and neighborhoods like Fremont, unfortunately, but it stings the worst when it happens to art.

It was recently reported by Leo Griffin, Friends of Troll’s Knoll (FOTK) President, that one of the mushroom lantern sculptures in the Troll’s Knoll park was severely damaged. There were four mushrooms in the park installed in 2023, which were designed in collaboration between artists Michiko Tanaka and HaiYing Wu

Tanaka and Wu surveyed the damage, according to Griffin, and it will cost $2,000 to repair the mushroom sculpture.

“We are very honored to have this work by HaiYing Wu and Michiko Tanaka and are reaching out to the community to help fund the repair as this was not an expenditure we anticipated having,” Griffin said.

The FOTK is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit (Tax ID: 91-1998597) and is accepting donations here on Classy.org. You can also learn more about the FOTK and the park, which is immediately east of the Fremont Troll, by visiting https://www.fremonttrollsknoll.org/.
