Seattle is asking residents to weigh in on two issues affecting daily life in Fremont: rental housing concerns and neighborhood transportation safety improvements.

Renter’s survey due February 20

Mayor Katie B. Wilson has launched a citywide Renter’s Survey to gather input on rental housing affordability. The survey, open through February 20, asks renters about their experiences with rent increases, fees, and housing stability.

“While state law currently prohibits cities from directly regulating rents or limiting rent increases, we do have the power to limit other fees landlords charge and to require landlord-paid relocation assistance when a renter moves following a significant rent increase,” Wilson said in a video statement.

The mayor, who is also a renter, encouraged tenants across all neighborhoods to complete the brief survey to help shape city policies on landlord fees and relocation assistance.

District 4 Transportation Survey due February 25

Councilmember Maritza Rivera is asking District 4 residents, which included those in Fremont north of the Ship Canal and east of Aurora, to identify transportation safety priorities for their neighborhoods.

The survey is part of a new program created by the 2024 Transportation Levy. Each City Council district received $2 million to spend on transportation safety and livability projects based on constituent input.

Possible improvements include marked crosswalks ($10,000–$20,000 each), speed humps ($20,000–$30,000 each), flashing beacons ($200,000–$250,000 each), and pedestrian signals (up to $1 million). Rivera’s office will work with the Seattle Department of Transportation to determine which projects are feasible.

“I would like to hear what you think is needed in D4,” Rivera said in her newsletter.

The deadline for transportation safety feedback is February 25. Residents can submit ideas here.

Traffic calming improvements are already planned for Stone Way.

Fremont Neighbor has reached out to Councilmember Dan Strauss, who represents District 6 (western Fremont), to ask if he will be launching a similar transportation survey for his constituents.

Update (February 12): The Mayor’s Office has extended the Renter’s Survey deadline from February 13 to February 20.
