Vandals strike again at the Troll’s Knoll

Just days after announcing repairs to previously damaged mushroom lantern sculptures, Friends of Troll’s Knoll reports another act of vandalism at the community space.

“We were pretty heartbroken to find out on April 20th that someone had vandalized the mushroom lanterns again. They also tipped over our water cistern and bench by the Moss Turtle Sculpture,” said Leo Griffin, Friends of Troll’s Knoll President. “Three mushroom lantern sculptures were vandalized and the mushroom cap on one split, (the northernmost mushroom – which wasn’t damaged earlier) so it needs evaluated as to whether it can be repaired.”

Volunteers have since re-cemented and repositioned two of the damaged mushroom lanterns, securing them with rope as an added precaution. The bench and cistern have also been reset.

FOTK is currently assessing additional measures to prevent future vandalism and has posted alerts on site to raise awareness about the ongoing issue.

On a separate note, community members are invited to attend the Spring Work Party Sunday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to noon, where activities will include gardening work, cleanup, and preparing tree bags for summer.

Those interested in contributing to the mushroom lantern repairs can still make tax-deductible donations through the Friends of Troll’s Knoll, a Seattle Parks Foundation Community Partner and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (Tax ID: 91-1998597).
