Update June 5 from SDOT:
Dear Fremont Residents and Businesses,
We want to inform you of a change to the planned water valve upgrade work on N 36th St at Dayton Ave N. The previously scheduled water shutoff on Monday, June 9 has been cancelled by Seattle Public Utilities due to proximity to critical community services, including medical facilities.
We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate the community’s patience while our teams reschedule these major infrastructure improvements. Neighbors can expect to see steel plates across N 36th at Dayton Ave N in the meantime until the upgrade has been completed and the trench filled.
Please stay tuned for updates as to when this work will be rescheduled.
Thank you,
Route 40 Project Team

The first scheduled water shutoff for the Route 40 improvement project will take place Monday from approximately 4 a.m. to noon, affecting buildings along North 36th Street between Francis Avenue North and Evanston Avenue North.
Water service will be interrupted for eight hours in the affected area. Lane reductions on North 36th Street between Francis Avenue North and Evanston Avenue North are expected during construction. Sidewalks and business entrances will remain open.
The shutoff is part of water valve upgrades at North 36th Street and Dayton Avenue North, marking the first major utility work since the May 17 shutoff was canceled because of trolley track complications. The work coordinates with Seattle Public Utilities’ replacement of a 100-year-old water main.
The timing coincides with the Ballard Bridge reopening. The bridge will be closed from Thursday evening until as late as 5 a.m. Monday.
Affected residents should have received detailed flyers. Bus routes 31, 32, 40 and 62 continue using temporary stops established in May.
