Winds bring down tree near Ross Park

Crews closed 3rd and 43rd on Sunday to remove a large Raywood Ash (over 13 inches in diameter) that toppled during Saturday night’s windstorm. The tree stood on the west side of Ross Park’s lower ballfield.

While these ornamental trees are popular for their fall color and moderate size, they’re known to be “prone to toppling,” especially when roots are shallow or soil conditions are wet. This SDOT-maintained tree may have struggled with anchorage during the storm.

The timing coincided with a power outage that hit over 5,300 customers across East Fremont, Fremont West, and West Woodland starting around 9:44 p.m. Saturday. Power flickered back on and out again before being restored. It’s still unclear if the fallen tree caused the outage or was just one of many casualties from the blustery night.

Stay safe out there, neighbors!
