Fremont lost two more businesses recently, adding to the growing list of vacant storefronts in downtown Fremont: Woodsky’s and Outlander Brewery and Pub.

Woodsky’s, a bar with a distinct ski lodge-like vibe, operated at 303 N 36th St. since 2011, with a brief closure in 2019. The bar was quirky like Fremont: the signature drink was a shot on ski’s, also appropriately known as a Shotski, and the bar hosted weekly goldfish races on Tuesday nights.

In a farewell Instagram post announcing their Jan. 31 ‘last call,’ Woodsky’s only cited “unfortunate circumstances” as the reason for closing.

Woodsky’s next door neighbor at 225 N 36th St., Outlander Brewery and Pub, closed its doors a month later on Feb. 28. Situated in an old craftsman home with a large back patio, Outlander had an eclectic, yet homey vibe, and they hosted open mic nights and trivia. It was an inclusive environment that was dog friendly and welcomed families until 10 p.m.

The microbrewery’s pub also had a 14 year run, and cited common circumstances surrounding the closure, which was “economic challenges and rising costs,” according to their closure announcement. Vanishing Seattle, a media organization that documents Seattle business and institution closures, cited “‘astronomical’ rent” as the reason for the closure.

The now vacant properties are owned by Fremont Dock Company.

“Thank you for sharing a pint, sharing stories and sharing your sentiments,” Outlander’s owners said in an Instagram farewell post. “We want to thank the Fremont community in general and we want to thank everyone who was apart [sic] of our story.”
