Where were you Feb. 28, 2001?

Twenty-five years ago today, the Nisqually Earthquake shook Seattle for nearly a minute, peaking at magnitude 6.8. A few months later, the I.O.O.F. building at Fremont Place N., Fremont Ave. N. and N. 35th St. had some of its facade fall off. The owner denied it was earthquake-related, but the timing made city inspectors wonder.

This photo from the Seattle Post-Intelligencer shows the damage to the building, which housed ETG, Espresso To Go; The Longshoreman’s Daughter restaurant; and the Empty Space Live Theatre.

It’s a reminder that earthquake preparedness matters. The B.F. Day Emergency Hub is looking for volunteers to help coordinate neighborhood emergency response. Learn more at https://www.fremontneighborhoodcouncil.org/projects/bfday-emergency-hub.
