On Thursday, March 19, Fremont Abbey Arts Center will host a free solo recital by Canadian American concert pianist Ludovic Zamor, featuring works by Franz Liszt. The performance runs from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. and is open to the public, though RSVP is required.

The concert offers something a little different from a traditional recital setup. The Abbey’s grand piano will be positioned in the center of the room, with audience members seated on floor cushions, padded chairs or, if the crowd turns out, standing around the edges. Zamor describes the transcriptions as taking orchestral scale and vocal intensity to the outer edge of what a single performer can command, compressing them into one instrument.

Zamor, who began studying piano at age 3 under his father’s instruction, made his debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall at 18 and has since become a regular presence at Steinway events. His performance lineage traces back through his teacher, Maestro Avraham Sternklar, to a chain that includes Busoni, Liszt and Beethoven.

The March 19 concert serves as an intimate preview of a larger program Zamor will present when he makes his solo debut at Seattle Symphony’s Benaroya Hall on June 20

Zamor reached out to Fremont Neighbor directly via Instagram to spread the word. It’s a rare chance to hear a world-class recital in a living room-sized setting, for free.
