SDOT’s back-to-school assignment: Making Fremont intersections safer

Just in time for Seattle Public Schools’ Sept. 3 start date, the Seattle Department of Transportation has completed safety improvements at two Fremont intersections. Fresh white daylighting markings at North 40th Street and Fremont Avenue North near B.F. Day Elementary create no-parking zones that improve visibility between drivers and pedestrians. At North 43rd Street and Fremont Avenue North, a new three-way stop with fresh crosswalk striping replaces what was previously a single stop sign at the T-intersection. Both improvements are part of SDOT’s ongoing safety efforts, including the citywide daylighting program funded by the Seattle Transportation Levy that prohibits parking near intersections to enhance visibility and reduce pedestrian injuries.
