Volunteers from the Fremont Rotary Club – known locally as the “Fun Club” – gathered Sept. 9 at Taki’s Mad Greek in Ballard to prepare hundreds of sandwiches for three Seattle-area nonprofits.

The monthly assembly line brought together Rotarians, family members and friends to make meals for Compass Housing Alliance, FamilyWorks Family Resource Center & Food Banks and Operation Nightwatch, according to Rudy Pantoja, president of the Fremont Rotary Club. He personally delivered the sandwiches the day after the volunteer service event.

The sandwich-making session happens every second Tuesday of the month, turning simple ingredients into nourishing meals that directly reach vulnerable community members. The partnership with Taki’s Mad Greek provides a local venue for the charitable effort.

The sandwiches support critical work across the region. Compass Housing Alliance provides shelter and support services for individuals experiencing homelessness. FamilyWorks serves families facing food insecurity through its resource centers and food banks. Operation Nightwatch offers overnight shelter and meals for people who need them most.

In October the club plans to host a bi-annual trimming of the topiary dinosaurs and cleaning of Canal Park, their adopted area. They also plan to host a glove and hat donation drive, so start gathering the items now!
