Hello, neighbors! Welcome to Fremont Neighbor Notes, spotlighting can’t-miss community events each Friday. Today we’re looking beyond Fremont’s borders to City Hall, where decisions about our neighborhood’s future are being made right now.
There’s a public hearing next Tuesday, Oct. 7, where you can tell the Seattle City Council what matters to you in the city’s $8.9 billion budget.
Mayor Bruce Harrell just released his budget proposal, and now the council is taking public input before making changes and voting on the final version in November. Councilmember Dan Strauss – who represents us in District 6 – is leading the budget process this year.
The budget funds everything from fixing potholes on Fremont Avenue to keeping the Burke-Gilman Trail maintained to Seattle City Light keeping our power on.
Now it’s Fremont’s turn to weigh in on what our neighborhood needs.
Tuesday, Oct. 7:
- 1 p.m. — remote public comment
- 5 p.m. — in-person public comment at City Hall
Can’t make it? Email your thoughts to dan.strauss@seattle.gov. (Strauss wants Fremont priorities by Oct. 10). Another public hearing is Nov. 6. Sign up for public comment here.
Be specific and personal: “I walk my kid to B.F. Day and the intersection at Fremont Ave and N 41st St is dangerous” carries more weight than generic complaints.

This is Fremont. We declared ourselves the Center of the Universe. The least we can do is tell the city what we need.
