The annual Seattle Public Safety Survey is now open and accepting responses through Nov. 30. The survey is part of the Seattle Police Department’s Micro-Community Policing Plans and is conducted by researchers at Seattle University’s Crime & Justice Research Center.
The survey – which is available in 11 languages – collects feedback from Seattle residents about public safety and security concerns in their neighborhoods. Results are provided to the Seattle Police Department and inform the department’s community policing strategies.
Last year’s survey results highlighted some interesting findings for Fremont. The neighborhood had the lowest fear of crime rating among North Seattle neighborhoods, but also had a relatively low police legitimacy rating compared to other areas, scoring 33 on a 100-point scale. Those results sparked questions about community-police relationships and how neighborhoods might work together on public safety efforts.
