Fremont Studios, The Picklr, and Hidden Hall were packed June 6 for the Cascade PBS Ideas Festival, a full-day gathering that brought hundreds of attendees and a roster of nationally known journalists, politicians, and thinkers to the neighborhood.

The one-day event featured live podcast recordings and panel conversations with Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff, Monica Lewinsky, Laverne Cox, Ibram X. Kendi, and Robby Hoffman, among dozens of others. Sessions ran from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. across the three Fremont venues.

Programming included live tapings of NPR’s Fresh Air, Radiolab, The New Yorker’s Political Scene and Radio Atlantic, covering topics ranging from race and democracy to geology, Native voices, and the state of U.S. foreign policy.

The festival also featured Lighthouse coffee, screen printing with the Vera Project, books from Elliott Bay Book Company, food trucks, and a closing happy hour. No word on whether the festival will return to the Center of the Universe next year.
