Fremonsters looking to add a little more green to the neighborhood have until July 31 to apply for a free tree from the city.
Seattle’s Trees for Neighborhoods program, run by Seattle City Light and Seattle Public Utilities, is taking applications for its 2026 round through the end of the month. Residents can request up to three trees per year, with a lifetime maximum of six per property.
The trees are free and delivered to participants’ homes in October and November. Participants also receive a watering bag, mulch, help choosing the right tree and location, planting training, and watering reminders for the first five years.
This year’s lineup includes 14 species, which are sorted by where they fit: yards, streets, or under power lines. Renters can apply as long as they have the property owner’s permission.
Everyone who receives a tree must attend one planting and care workshop. The closest to Fremont is Oct. 11 at the Phinney Ridge Community Center from 1 to 4 p.m.
