Construction on the A.B. Ernst Park Addition begins next month, bringing the long-delayed project one step closer to completion.
Seattle Parks and Recreation has hired Wyser Construction to handle the work.
The final design reflects years of community feedback. The embankment slide and hill climb will transform the site’s natural slope into a play destination for kids. An expanded entry plaza will add new benches and picnic tables, creating more gathering space for the neighborhood.
This 0.10-acre addition has been in the works since Seattle Parks acquired the vacant lot in 2010. A pandemic pause, expired permits, rising costs, and a redesign later.
Fair warning: there will be some disruptions during the build. Expect parking impacts along N 35th Street and increased vehicle traffic in and out of the alley to the south, as construction equipment and materials move in and out.
We’ll keep you posted as the work gets underway, and you can read more about the project at https://www.seattle.gov/parks/about-us/projects/a-b-ernst-park-addition.
