After years of delays, the vacant lot next to the Fremont Library and A.B. Ernst Park is finally being transformed into a new neighborhood green space.
Excavation equipment is on-site, construction has started, and the project is set to be completed by spring, said Roma Shah, capital projects coordinator with Seattle Parks and Recreation.
The A.B. Ernst Park Addition has been in the works since 2010, when the city acquired the lot. A pandemic pause, expired permits, and a full redesign delayed the project.
The addition’s construction is running alongside the Fremont Library’s HVAC installation next door. The library closed Aug. 9 for the project, and is targeting an early November reopening. Library and Parks staff are coordinating on both projects.
