Friday – Sunday, September 18 – 20: Fremont Oktoberfest
The Fremont Chamber of Commerce’s Fremont Oktoberfest returns for three days of craft beer, food, and Bavarian-style revelry, billed as “German inspired, Fremont perfected.” The 21-and-older festival runs Friday from 5 to 11 p.m., Saturday from noon to 11 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Expect stein-hoisting and stein-slide competitions, a Bavarian costume contest, a beer mile run, and DJ sets across the grounds. Sunday is Dogtoberfest, with dogs welcome all day and a Best Dog contest at 2 p.m. Tickets are on sale, and volunteers who pour beer get in free.
Saturday, September 19: Luminata
The Fremont Arts Council marks the autumnal equinox with Luminata, its illuminated lantern celebration around Green Lake, on a new route starting at the Aqua Theater (West Green Lake Way N.). Crafts for little lantern bearers open at the Kids Tent at 5 p.m., followed by an opening ceremony around 7 p.m. featuring Kiymbah Tytania, aka The Primal Mystic, and her crew. At 7:30 p.m. the procession steps off, led by VamoLà, Assigned Gay at Band, Marc Smason’s One Love, and Carold Nelson & Friends. When the parade ends, the party keeps going around the illuminated art installations near the Seattle Public Theater (7312 West Green Lake Dr. N.). Handmade lanterns are for sale, with proceeds benefiting the arts council, or bring your own lantern, costume, or walkable art and walk along.
